Epsilon Xi Sigma Chapter History
Several members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity who were in the Chattanooga area during the late sixties knew each other through the Chattanooga School System in which they taught school. A few brothers envisioned forming a local chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity so they invited others to participate in organizing a local chapter of the Fraternity. Through these efforts, Epsilon Xi Sigma Chapter was chartered September 5, 1972.
The Charter Members were Bro. Leonard E. Wellington ( first chapter president ), Bro. Jake Strickland, Bro. Eddy L. Echols Sr., Bro. Robert H.
Stewart, Bro. Rev. Herman H. Battle, Bro. Raymond Taylor and Bro. Henderson F. Massey. The local chapter was charted as Epsilon Xi Sigma
Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and also, became a member of the Southeastern Region of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Today, the chapter consists of 33 financial brothers, ranging in age from early twenties to early eighties. The chapter continues to be a
strong force for good in the Chattanooga community.
